New Study: Weight Watchers Diet Plan for Heart Health
I came across this latest weight loss studies that caught my attention. The study was done by The University of Massachusetts Medical School on various popular diet plans for their effectiveness on improving heart health. Per the study results published in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association October issue, the Weight Watchers Diet Plan “significantly outperformed others in their ability to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.” The Weight Watchers High Carbohydrate plan scored slightly higher than the Weight Watchers New Glucose Revolution and Weight Watchers High Protein plans. The study notes that these programs did so well due to their emphasis on fruits & vegetables, higher whole grain composition and lower trans fats.
Ornish, Zone, South Beach Phase 2, Atkins, and South Beach Phase 3 were the others that scored well as well in this study. Interestingly, the US government’s USDA Food Guide Pyramid did not do so well in cardiovascular disease prevention.
The study concludes that the high scoring plans like WeightWatchers not only help lose weight, but also maximize cardiovascular risk reduction over a long period of time.
